The Gazette-Virginian’s annual Professor Pigskin Football Contest gets underway next week, featuring cash prizes for entrants that make the most correct picks on a slate of college football games. This year’s jackpot for a perfect slate of picks opens at $59, with the jackpot increasing by $1 per week until some lucky player comes up with a perfect slate.
T.W. Powell, a long-time participant in the Professor Pigskin Contest, won the big jackpot last season, becoming the first contest participant in over 10 years to record a perfect slate of picks.
Weekly prizes will remain the same as last season, with the winner receiving a $30 prize, the second-place winner receiving a $20 prize and the third-place winner receiving a $10 prize.
Next week’s contest entry blank will appear in the sports section in Monday’s (Aug. 29) edition of the newspaper. The official Professor Pigskin Contest entry blank will continue to appear on the sports pages of the Gazette-Virginian each Monday for the next 12 weeks.
Advertisements will be placed in different locations throughout the newspaper.
Contest participants will have to look in the advertisements, find the games and write down their pick of the winner in the designated place on the contest entry blank.
The advertisements containing the games will have the Prof. Pigskin logo in the ad.
All contest entry forms must be received in the office of the Gazette-Virginian by 5 p.m. each Friday in order to eligible for the week’s contest judging.
Contest participants may mail their entries to Professor Pigskin Football Contest, P.O. Box 524, South Boston, Va. 24592 or turn their contest entry forms in at the Gazette-Virginian office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. any day Monday through Friday.
Fans participating in the contest are reminded to review and follow the contest rules listed on the contest entry form.
