Victories continue for Lions golf team

The Halifax County Middle School golf team ran its season record to four wins without a loss with a solid win at home Monday against Ben Franklin Middle School.

Jamey Binner was Medalist for the match with a round of 42, Matthew Ratliff had a round of 44 and Leggett Moore had a round of 48 for the Lions.

Holt Powell shot a 49, Lance Chappell a 50, Alex Mitchell a 52 and Luke Newbill a 53 for Halifax, with the lowest five scores counting towards the overall team score for the match.

Ben Franklin Middle School’s lowest five scores were a 51, 52, 54, 55 and 56, according to Lions’ coach Charlie Payne, who noted a number of other Lions’ golfers showed marked improvement.

“We had other players who showed improvement, including Paul Edmunds with a good round of 54,” said Payne.

The Lions’ golf team traveled to Powhatan on Tuesday in an effort to remain unbeaten for the season.
