Jimmy Clay is looking for another sweep of the Halifax Country Club (HCC) and Green’s Folly Golf Club championships, as he goes for the Green’s Folly club championship this weekend.
On the ladies’ side, Linda Collier hopes to repeat the title she won last year for the first time at the Green’s Folly Golf Club championships.
If Clay wins it will mark the fourth straight year he has accomplished a sweep of both championships.
Clay will be the prohibitive favorite to repeat a sweep judging by his play last weekend at the HCC championships, where he carded a two-day total of 129 to win by 17 strokes.
He won the Green’s Folly Golf Club championship last year with a 68-69-137, six strokes better than Billy Payne and seven strokes better than Bobby Wilborn and David Day, with Woody Clay finishing eight strokes behind his brother.
Clay bested a field of 43 golfers last year to win the Green’s Folly title, with Kevin Haskins winning the First Flight with a 76-73-149, Charlie Payne winning the Second Flight with a 79-75-154, Chris Young winning the Third Flight with a 82-75-157, and Alan Gravitt winning the Fourth Flight with a 87-79-166.
Collier collected her first Green’s Folly Golf Club title last year with a two-day total of 75-78-153, eight strokes better than 2009 champion Kay Burton and 17 strokes better than Brenda Graham.
Kaitlin Fallen won the First Flight with a total of 174, and Kitty Hawkins won the Second Flight with a two-day total of 208.
