The Alabama loss came after Halifax rallied from five runs down in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game and send it to extra innings, and Halifax led Alexandria/Pineville for most of the game before falling in extra innings.

Halifax County finished the World Series with a 3-2 record, with three games going to extra innings.

Alexandria/Pineville tied the game with two outs in the fourth inning on a single and double, and the host team won the game with a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Dalyn Hall kept Halifax American in the game with eight strong innings on the mound.

Alabama 12 Halifax American 6

Halifax American lost its first game of the World Series with a 12-6 loss to Alabama on Wednesday, despite a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning capped by a three-run homer by Lindsey Wilkins to send the game to extra innings.

Alabama led 1-0 after one inning, but Halifax tied the score in the second when Hall scored on a passed ball after hitting a single and moving to third base on A Wilkins base hit.

Alabama held a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh, when Kate Bane hit a one-out double to start a rally.  With two outs, Alabama committed a throwing error on a Jill Trickey ground ball to plate Bane, and Lacks singled, Hall reached on an error and Trickey scored on a passed ball to set up Wilkins’ homer, which sent the game to extra innings.

Halifax had a chance to win the game in the eighth inning, but didn’t get the call on a close play at the plate, and Alabama scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning that held up for the win.

Wilkins finished with a single and home run for Halifax, while Lacks had two base hits, Bane a single and double, and VeVe Brandon, Hall and Jessica Velazquez a base hit apiece.

Lacks pitched the first six innings and into the seventh inning for Halifax American before Bane came to the mound in relief.

Bane pitched into the eighth inning before Trickey came to the mound to complete the game.
