Dixie Boys pummeled in opening game

The Halifax County Dixie Boys all-stars got off to a bad start in the Dixie Boys World Series Saturday in Beaufort, South Carolina, going hitless and losing 21-1 to the host team, Beaufort. Halifax County scored its only run in the first inning after Adrian Moran reached base on an error before moving to second on a passed ball.

Thomas Cole and Tripp Bennett each reached base on errors to plate Moran, but that was all the scoring Halifax County could muster.

Drew Link had an inning-ending double play in the third inning, but highlights were few in number for Halifax County, with the team committing three errors.

Ben Major started the game on the mound for Halifax County and pitched to three batters, giving up two hits and a walk, and Cole pitched one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit and two walks while striking out three batters.

Bennett gave up three hits and three walks while striking out three batters in one and one-third innings, and Grey Henderson came into the game in the fourth inning, pitching two and one-third innings and giving up seven hits and four walks.

Link and Dustin Fears finished the game for Halifax County on the mound, Link giving up one hit and two walks, and Fears striking out one batter in two-thirds of an inning.

Halifax County played Georgia yesterday in an effort to stay alive in the World Series.
