Home runs spur Scottsburg in O-Zone opener

Three home runs, a three-run homer by Charles Hudson, a two-run homer by Jacob McKinney and a solo homer by Kelonte Gutrich, spurred the Scottsburg all-stars to a 10-3 win over Amherst Friday in the Dixie Youth Baseball O-Zone State Tournament.

Scottsburg scored one run in the first inning off a Dakota Loftis base hit and RBI single by McKinney, and Gutrich added a solo home run in the third inning.

A seven-run fourth inning broke the game open for Scottsburg, with Ty Carrington reaching base on an error and McKinney slamming a two-run home run.

Evan Irby and Zack Chappell singled in front of a three-run homer by Hudson to cap the rally.

Scottsburg added a run in the fifth inning when McKinney singled, Grant Brizendine reached base on a bunt, and Chappell stroked an RBI single.

Gutrich contributed on the mound as well as at the plate, handcuffing Amherst on just two hits in six innings of work, and he struck out 12 batters while walking four.

Scottsburg played Salem last night trying to remain unbeaten in the tournament, being played in Salem.
