The Scottsburg AAA all-stars came up short in their first game at the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA State Tournament, losing a 6-3 decision to Carroll County on Saturday in Botetourt.
Each team had five hits, with Shaun Perkins leading the way with a two-run double, while Colt LaRue, Michael Hudson, Miles Coleman and Jeffrey Cates added base hits.
Scottsburg scored it first run in the second inning when Austin Carlson reached base on a walk and reached second on a passed ball before advancing to third base and scoring on another passed ball.
Scottsburg added two runs in the sixth inning when Cates singled and LaRue reached base on a walk before Perkins hit a two-run double.
Carroll County scored two runs in the first inning, one run each in the second and third innings, and two in the fourth, off five hits.
Cates hurled the first two innings for Scottsburg, with Zander Strohm pitching the third through fifth innings and Perkins the sixth inning.
Scottsburg pitching combined to strike out two Carroll County batters.
Scottsburg played last night at 4 p.m. in an effort to stay alive at the state tournament.
