HCS all-stars finish third in state

The Halifax County South (HCS) Cal Ripken Minor League all-stars finished in third-place in the recent state tournament in Lexington, and will advance to the regionals July 27 in New Bern, N.C. HCS opened with a 14-2 win over Pioneer District 13B and an 12-5 win over Manassas District 8 before losing 18-4 to Glen Allen District 3 and 12-1 to Summit Point District 9.

HCS scored 10 runs in the first inning, one in the second and three in the third to win the game.

Carlton Redd had a home run and a base hit, Troy Ferrell had a pair of doubles and a pair of singles Dylan Collie had a double and single, and Drew Lester had a triple and base hit in the win.

Dane Dickerson and Alex Lowery each added a double and Brandon Morris and Jax Bosiger base hits for HCS, while Dylan Clark drew three walks and Tyler Mabe drew a walk.

Lowery and Redd each pitched two innings for HCS, Lowery giving up one run on one hit with a strikeout, and Redd giving up one run on hits and two strikeouts.

HCS scored eight runs in the third, three in the fourth and one in the fifth inning to beat Manassas.

Redd had a home run and base hit, Clark and Collie a double and two singles apiece, and Ferrell three base hits for HCS, while Bosiger and Lester each had a double and Lowery and Morris each a base hit.

Lowery, Bosiger and Tyler Mabe each drew a walk in the win.

Manassas scored four runs in the third inning and one run in the sixth.

Lowery, Ferrell and Lester went to the mound for HCS, the trio allowing nine hits and striking out four batters.

Glen Allen 18 HCS 4

HCS scored four runs in the fourth inning, but it wasn’t enough against Glen Allen, which scored 10 runs in the first, six in the second and two runs in the third inning.

Collie had a double and single, Morris a double, and Redd, Collie and Mabe base hits, while Ferrell and Lowery drew walks.

Ferrell and Clark each pitched two innings for HCS, with Ferrell striking out two batters and Clark striking out one batter.

Summit Point 12 HCS 1

HCS bowed out of the double elimination tournament with a loss to Summit Point, HCS scoring its only run in the third inning.

Summit Point scored 10 runs in the second inning and two in the third to win the game.

Lester had a double and single in the game, Collie had a double, and Ferrell, Lowery and Morris base hits.

Ferrell and Lester pitched for HCS against Summit Point, with Ferrell recording a strikeout.
