American Angels 2-0 in state tournament

The Halifax American Angels all-stars are 2-0 thus far in the Virginia Dixie Softball Angels State Tournament being played at Amherst.

American recorded a 12-2 win against Goochland in just three innings on Friday, before getting past Carroll County 8-5 on Saturday.

American played Brunswick County last night in an effort to remain unbeaten in the tournament.

Halifax American broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the third inning and two in the fifth to get past Carroll County on Saturday.
Tamiara Logan Aliyah Chandler and Carol Fears each had a single in the first inning, while Hailie Lawhorn, Jerri Lynn Tyler and Savanna Cabaniss each drew walks to plate the runs for American.

Carroll County used a double and three base hits to tie the score after one inning, but a three-run third inning gave American the lead for good.

Chandler walked, Olivia Noblin singled and Tyler walked, before Cabaniss smacked a triple to make it 6-3.

Each team scored twice in the fifth inning, American on a leadoff double by Madison Gunn, single by Chandler, a walk to Fears and double by Noblin.

Carroll County notched two runs on two hits and a walk in the bottom of the fifth, but it wasn’t enough.

Lawhorn had another hit for American, that coming in the fourth inning, and American used two pitchers in the contest.

Tyler started the game and pitched the first two innings, before Gunn came to the mound for the fourth and fifth innings.

The pair combined for two strikeouts.

American scored six runs on a Tyler single and seven walks in the first inning and never looked back in winning game one.

Logan, Gunn, Chandler, Cabaniss, Mollie Slate, Veuandra Winn and Lauryn Chappell reached base via the walk in the first frame for Halifax.

Goochland chalked up a run on a leadoff double and triple in the second, but Halifax got six runs on six walks and a Gunn double in the third, including walks to Noblin, Cabaniss, Slate, Winn, Chappell and Logan.

Goochland scored one run on two singles and two walks in the third inning, but it wasn’t enough.

Fears pitched the first two innings for Halifax American, and Logan came on for the third and final frame.

Fears and Logan combined for four strikeouts.
