WOODBRIDGE -- The Halifax County High School varsity girls basketball team's magical season came to an abrupt end Friday night. Halifax County fell to Forest Park High School 74-42 in the semifinals of the Northwest Region Tournament.
Friday's loss left the Comets with a 21-2 slate for the season.
The Comets led the first nine minutes of the game but fell victim to the Bruins' pressure defense and outside shooting.
Forest Park took the lead for good at 16-14 with seven minutes left in the first half.
A 13-0 run by the Bears to start the second quarter put the Comets down 24-14 and they never recovered.
The Comets trailed 36-18 at halftime and trailed 57-34 at the end of the third quarter.
Destiny Betts led the Comets with 14 points. Stephanie Carr followed with 10 points and Melyse Brown chipped in nine points.
