Eight Comets boys claim honors

Eight members of the Halifax County High School varsity boys basketball team have been named to spots on the All-Western valley District Basketball Team. One Comets player, senior guard Demetre Faulkner, was named to the First Team. He is the only Comets player eligible for consideration for voting for the All-Northwest Region Team.

Faulkner averaged nine points per game for the Comets this past season. Known for his defensive prowess, Faulkner logged 63 steals and blocked six shots. He also had 63 assists and snared 22 rebounds.

Two Comets players, junior Ford Bradshaw and Keon Gutrich, were named to the Second Team of the All-Western Valley District Team.
Gutrich averaged 12 points per game and collared 220 rebounds during the season. In addition, Gutrich had 38 steals, blocked 38 shots and logged 38 assists.

Bradshaw averaged eight points per game

and had 114 assists on the season. He snared 57 rebounds, logged 95 steals and blocked eight shots.

Five other Comets players, Freddie Edmonds, Dre’ Tucker, Rak’juan Windsor, Cordero Brown and Kendell Adams, all received Honorable Mention kudos.

Edmonds averaged 8.3 points per game, had 38 assists, and logged 143 rebounds. In addition, Edmonds had 57 steals, blocked 22 shots and had 38 assists.

Tucker averaged 5.2 points per game and pulled down 238 rebounds. He had 29 steals and blocked 38 shots. In addition, he recorded 21 assists.

Windsor averaged eight points per game and came away with 44 rebounds. In addition, Windsor had 25 assists, 19 steals and blocked 16 shots.

Brown averaged 5.3 points per game and had 21 assists. He snared 25 rebounds, had 18 steals and blocked eight shots.

Adams averaged 5.3 points per game and had 23 assists on the season. He had 76 rebounds, had 19 steals and blocked 12 shots.
