Dixie Boys Finish 2-2 In World Series

The Halifax County Dixie Boys all-stars finished with a 2-2 mark in the Dixie Boys World Series, losing their final two games after a 2-0 start. Halifax County won its opener over Troup County, Georgia, 2-1 and followed that up with an 8-1 win over Searcy, Arkansas.

Halifax County then lost a 15-5 decision to Brunswick County, N.C., before dropping out of the World Series with a 5-1 loss to eventual World Series champion Laurel-Jones County, Mississippi.

Will Harris, Seth Elliott, Justin Womack, Michael Watts and Tyler Wall finished with hits against Mississippi.

Mississippi scored single runs in the second and third innings, with Halifax County scoring a run in the top of the fourth inning to cut its deficit in half.

Womack singled and advanced to second on a throwing error by the pitcher before pinch runner Josh Irby scored on an RBI single by Elliott.

Mississippi added a run in the bottom of the fourth inning and two in the bottom of the fifth, but Halifax County tried to rally in the top of the seventh inning.

Pinch hitter Elijah Hudson reached base on an error to put a runner on base, and Harris slugged a two-out double, but a strikeout cut the rally short and ended the game.

Three pitchers toed the rubber for Halifax County against Mississippi, with Hunter Watts hurling the first three innings, Womack the next two and two-thirds innings and Elliott the final one and one-third innings.
