A triple by Cassidy Walker capped a seven-run second inning, and the Halifax American Darlings all-stars went on to an 11-4 win over Georgia Saturday in its Dixie Softball Darlings World Series opener. Halifax American finished with 22 hits for the game, scoring two runs in the first to take a 2-0 lead, and American added seven runs in the second for a 9-3 advantage.
American scored two runs in the third and Georgia added a run in the fourth for the final score.
Karina Velazquez, Hailie Lawhorn and Jeri Lynn Tyler singled in the first inning and Cassidy Walker and Savanna Cabaniss doubled to make it 2-0.
DeeDee Jeffress, Kayla Walker, Raegan Ridgeway, Shekeria Chandler, Jessica Balducci, Karlye Dyer, Velazquez and Lawhorn singled in the second ahead of Cassidy Walker’s triple as American took a 9-3 lead.
Cabaniss, Lauryn Chappell and Kayla Walker singled, Ridgeway doubled and Chandler singled in the third to make it 11-3.
Dyer added a fourth-inning single and Tyler and Cassidy Walker fifth-inning base hits for American.
Lawhorn was on the mound the entire game for Halifax American, which played Tennessee last night looking for win number two.
