It was another banner summer for youth sports in Halifax County, with six teams earning berths in World Series as close to home as Christiansburg, Va., and as far away as Vancleave, Mississippi, Dothan, Alabama, Independence, Louisiana and Denison, Texas. The South Boston Dixie Majors all-stars travel to Independence, La., for the Dixie Majors World Series and play their first game at 4 p.m. tomorrow against Polk County, Florida.
Closer to home, the Halifax County Dixie Boys all-star team travels to Christiansburg, Va., for the Dixie Boys World Series and is set to play its opener at 7 p.m. tomorrow against Troup County, Georgia.
The Halifax County Dixie Junior Boys all-stars travel to Dothan, Alabama, for the Dixie Junior Boys World Series, with their opening game tomorrow at 4 p.m. against Troup County, Georgia.
The Halifax County Dixie Softball League claimed state titles in three of five age groups, with the Halifax American Darlings, Halifax American Angels and Halifax American Debs all-star teams each earning a World Series berth.
The Halifax American Darlings all-stars travel to Denison, Texas, for the Dixie Darlings World Series and face Georgia tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. in its opener, while the Halifax American Angels and Debs all-star teams have a chance to cheer each other on, as both travel to Vancleave, Mississippi for World Series action.
The Halifax American Angels play Florida tomorrow at 11 a.m. in its opener, while the Halifax American Debs take on Louisiana, also tomorrow.
