Halifax County South One Win Short Of State Championship

The Halifax County South Dixie Youth Baseball (DYB) Minor League (AAA) all-stars came up one win short in its quest for a DYB Minor League state title after a 10-0 loss to Goochland Wednesday in Madison Heights. HCS began tournament play with a 16-10 win over Vinton and lost to Rustburg 14-4, before edging Madison Heights 11-9 and Goochland 7-6 to reach the championship game.

HCS trailed only 2-0 after three innings, but Goochland plated six runs in the fourth inning and two in the fifth to deny HCS the state championship.

After being retired in order the first inning, Drew Lester reached base on a one-out walk for HCS in the second inning and advanced as far as third, but could not score.

Jacob Sanford also walked in the third and William Jacobs singled in the fourth for HCS.  Eric Brandon also reached base in the fourth inning for HCS.

HCS tried to rally in the fifth inning with one-out singles from Lester and Dawson Watts, but a strikeout and flyout ended that scoring threat.

Dylan Collie and Dylan Clark pitched for HCS in the championship game, Collie hurling four innings and Clark one frame.

Collie finished with five strikeouts.
