It took an extra game to do it, but the Halifax American Debs all-stars came away with the hardware Monday night by winning the Dixie Softball Debs State Tournament with a 12-3 rout of Clarksville. Clarksville had forced an extra game to determine a champion with a 6-1 win earlier in the evening, but Halifax American jumped to a 9-1 lead after two innings and never looked back.
Katie Barnett, Jennifer Lacks and Whitney Womack slugged home runs in the win.
Halifax American will represent Virginia in the Dixie Softball Debs World Series, beginning July 31 in Vancleave, Mississippi.

Barnett capped a five-run first inning with a two-run home run, her third in two games, Lacks added a grand slam homer in the second inning and Womack a solo shot in the sixth, and Halifax American went on to a 12-3 win over Clarksville.
Clarksville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off singles by Jenna DeSantis and Amy Hamlett, followed by a RBI hit by Sarah Trent.
Jameshia Smith had a two-run double and Johanna Spencer had an RBI base hit in the first and Lacks added a base hit in the inning, which saw Halifax take a 5-0 lead.
Halifax added four runs in the second inning when Dalyn Hall reached base on a fielder’s choice, VeVe Brandon reached after being hit by a pitch, Jamilia Smith walked and Lacks hit a grand slam home run for a 9-1 lead.
Clarksville added a run in the third off a pair of Halifax errors and a run in the fourth off hits by Katie Smith, Kelly Newton (RBI) and Shannon Satterwhite, but Halifax scored twice in the fifth inning.
Lacks walked to start the inning and scored when Spencer reached base on an error. Jameshia Smith later hit a sacrifice fly to plate Spencer with the second run of the inning.
Womack hit her solo homer to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning for the final run of the game.
Lacks pitched the first two innings, Womack the third and fourth and Hall the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for Halifax American, allowing eight hits between them.

Barnett slammed two home runs, a solo homer in the fourth inning and a two-run shot in the seventh, and pitchers Lacks, Womack and Hall combined to hold Powhatan to three hits in a 7-0 win on Sunday.
Barnett added a base hit and run scored for American, which got doubles from Lacks (RBI), Caitlin Lawhorn and Womack and singles from Brandon, Jamilia Smith, Spencer, Jameshia Smith and Kisha Crowder (RBI).
Lawhorn scored on a passed ball and Womack hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI, both coming in the second inning when American took a 2-0 lead.
Barnett had singled to start the inning and Lawhorn doubled, sending Barnett to third base where she scored on Womack’s sacrifice fly. Lawhorn then scored on a passed ball.
Jamilia Smith hit a two-out single and scored on Lacks’ double in the third, and American scored two runs in the fourth off a solo homer by Barnett, double by Womack and RBI single by Crowder.
Two runs in the seventh completed the scoring, with Jameshia Smith hitting a single and Barnett following with her second home run of the game.
Lacks pitched the first two innings, Womack the third and Hall the final four innings for American, with Lacks striking out four batters, Womack one and Hall three batters.
