A sacrifice fly by Jameshia Smith in the fourth inning plated Jamilia Smith with the only run of the game, as the Halifax American Debs all-stars edged Clarksville 1-0 Saturday in the Dixie Softball Debs State Tournament in Farmville. Halifax is 3-0 thus far in the tournament after winning its opener 11-1 over Powhatan on Friday and defeating Prince Edward-Farmville 11-0 earlier Saturday.

Jennifer Lacks, Whitney Womack and Dalyn Hall pitched a combined four-hitter with a combined six strikeouts in the close win over Clarksville.
Halifax finished with seven hits, with Lacks hitting two singles, Johanna Spencer a double, and VeVe Brandon, Jamilia Smith, Kim Snead and Hall hitting singles.
Spencer doubled in the second inning and Womack reached on an error and Snead on a bunt single in the third, but the game was scoreless until the fourth inning.
Jamilia Smith led off with a bunt single, stole second and reached third base on a passed ball, before scoring when Jameshia Smith hit a foul ball down the left field line, which was caught for the second out of the inning.
That was it for the scoring despite singles by Hall and Brandon in the sixth inning and another base hit by Lacks in the seventh.
Lacks gave up two hits in three innings, a single by Jenna DeSantis in the first and a single by Sarah Trent in the second, and Womack gave up a hit by Amy Hamlett in the fourth and a single in the fifth by Jenni Brooks.
The fifth inning proved to be Clarksville’s best chance for scoring after Katie Smith reached on an error and Brooks singled, with both stealing a base to put runners at second and third, but a strikeout and groundout got Halifax out of the inning.
Lacks pitched the first three innings for Halifax and Womack the fourth and part of the fifth, before Hall relieved Womack and finished the game on the mound.
Lacks and Hall struck out three batters apiece.

Katie Barnett smacked a three-run homer and Halifax finished with 10 hits overall in an 11-0 win over Prince-Edward-Farmville.
Jamilia Smith finished with a two-run double, single and three runs scored, Lacks had an RBI single and sacrifice fly for another RBI, and Spencer had a two-run single.
Caitlin Lawhorn had a RBI single, and Jameshia Smith, Womack, Kisha Crowder and Robyn Jennings added base hits, while Hall had an RBI groundout.
Halifax American scored one run in the first, one in the second, four in the fourth and five in the fifth inning capped by Barnett’s homer to end the game under the mercy rule.
Lacks started the game on the mound for Halifax and struck out two while allowing no hits in two innings. Womack came to the mound in the third inning and allowed one hit, while striking out four batters in three innings of work.

Lacks slugged two home runs, a two-run shot in the first and a solo home run in the fifth, and Halifax finished with 13 hits overall in a 11-1 win over Powhatan.
Hall collected three hits for the game, Womack had a two-run double, Lawhorn and Barnett each an RBI double, Snead two hits and an RBI and Jennings another RBI when she reached base on an error.
Jamilia Smith added two base hits, Spencer a double and Jameshia Smith a base hit for Halifax American, which scored two runs in the first inning, four in the fourth and five in the fifth inning to help end the game under the mercy rule.
Powhatan scored its only run on a solo home run in the second inning.
Lacks pitched the first three innings and Womack the fourth and fifth frames for Halifax American, with Lacks allowing one run on two hits and Womack no runs on no hits.
Lacks struck out four batters and Womack one.
