Jessica Palmer and Blair Jeffress won at number one doubles and Monica Puckett and Brandi Winstead took a win at number three doubles, but visiting Patrick Henry finished with a 7-2 win on Monday. The Patriots were strong at all positions and managed to score wins in all six singles, according to Comets coach Greg Donner, who noted several matches were very closely contested, with Jeffress forcing a third set tie-breaker before falling.
Jessica Palmer also pushed her opponent to a 4-6,4-6 score in a match that lasted over two hours, and the number one and three doubles teams played well to get wins, Donner added.
“We had a very slow start against a good team and were not able to ever get a lead in the matches even though we played well at all levels. We have shown all year that we can play with the best in our district but now we need to find a way to get the key points when we need them.”
