Chowan University first baseman and former Comets standout Justin Bagbey has been named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Player of the Year. Bagbey, in his sophomore season at Chowan, batted .463 and led the league with 12 home runs. He has collected 12 doubles and 47 RBIs, and has a .991 fielding percentage.
He was also named to the All-CIAA First Team at first base.
Chowan, 15-5 in the CIAA and 22-16-1 overall, is the No. 2 seed in the 2010 CIAA Baseball Championships set to begin this week.
Parker Continues Success At PHCC
Another former Comets’ baseball player, Chris Parker, is in his fourth year as head baseball coach at Patrick Henry Community College.
In three seasons, Parker has led his team to 105 wins and a ranking as high as seventh in the nation (2009) in the team’s inaugural season in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
At last count, the Patriots are 34-9 and are ranked sixth in the nation this season in the NJCAA Division II poll.
