Comets Fail To Place In State Meet

Halifax County High School indoor track & field athletes gave a good effort in the Virginia Group AAA state indoor track & field championship meet in Hampton, but failed to put any points on the board. Andrea Wright posted the best finish for the Comets’ contingent, finishing in a tie for tenth-place in the high jump. Wright’s best leap was five feet and one inch.

The Comets’ girls 4x200-meter relay team came through with an 11th-place effort. Comprised of Tiara Woolford, Tyisha Pannell, Mikayla Boyd and Tanisha Evans, the team posted a time of one minute and 47.86 seconds.

Travis Lipscomb placed 21st in the boys triple jump with a mark of 41-11.75.

Evans placed 20th in the 300-meter race with a time of 42.29 seconds.

She also placed 22nd in the triple jump with a jump of 33-10.25.

The state meet concluded the season for the Comets indoor track track and field team.

Western Branch High School swept the meet, winning both the boys and girls state championships.
