HCHS, HCMS Unveil Changes In Schedule

The recent spate of snow and ice have forced Halifax County High School and Halifax County Middle School to make more changes in their athletic schedules. Halifax County High School’s boys and girls basketball teams have had their Western Valley District games against Franklin County High School rescheduled for Saturday.

The Comets boys teams will face Franklin County High School here Saturday, with the ninth-grade boys game being played at 4:30 p.m. at Halifax County Middle School.

Both the junior varsity and varsity boys games will be played at Halifax County High School with the junior varsity game starting at 4 p.m. and the varsity game starting at 6 p.m.

Halifax County High School’s girls teams will travel to Rocky Mount to face Franklin County High School. The junior varsity girls game will start at 4 p.m. and the varsity girls game will start at 5:30 p.m.

The Comets boys teams traveled to Roanoke last night to face William Fleming High School. William Fleming High School’s girls teams came here last night to face the Comets girls.

Halifax County Middle School’s boys and girls basketball teams were supposed to have started play this week in the Southside Middle School Conference Basketball Tournament but that has been postponed as well.

The quarterfinal round tournament games at Halifax County Middle School have been rescheduled for Monday with the Lions girls set to play Lunenburg Middle School at 5 p.m. and the boys scheduled to face Amelia Middle School at 6:30 p.m.

Tournament semi-final and championship games will be played at Powhatan Middle School on Friday and Saturday Feb. 19-20.

Halifax County High School’s wrestling team was scheduled to compete in the Northwest Region Tournament at Colonial Forge High School today and Saturday. The tournament has been rescheduled to start Saturday at 12 noon with the final round set to start Sunday at 11 a.m.

Also rescheduled is the Northwest Region Swimming Championships. That event, which was set to be held this week, has been rescheduled for Monday at noon at the Dedmon Center at Radford.
