Belles shut down Brookneal to win district tourney

Katie Gregory pitched a five-inning one-hitter with nine strikeouts, and Olivia Noblin and Madison Hailey each had a 3-3 day at the plate to lead the Halifax American Belles all-stars to a 13-0 win over Brookneal Monday for the Dixie Softball District 7 Tournament championship.

Halifax American will compete for a berth in the Dixie Softball Belles World Series at the Virginia Dixie Softball Belles state tournament starting July 11 in Blackstone.

Halifax American scored a single run in the second inning and broke away from Brookneal with a seven-run third inning, before adding five runs in the fourth inning of Monday’s game.

Noblin finished with three base hits and an RBI, and Hailey had a double, two base hits and an RBI, while Abbey Bales slugged two doubles and three RBIs.

Taylor Jones had a two-run double, Malasia Boyd and Sara Moser each a double, single and RBI, and Tamiara Logan an RBI single for Halifax.

Chinaiyah Owen added a base hit for Halifax American in the shutout win.

Gregory allowed two base runners in five innings, one on a walk in the third inning and one on a base hit in the fourth inning.  


Halifax American 24 Motley 9

Halifax scored 24 runs on 25 hits in a comeback win over Motley on Sunday.

Motley took a 6-0 lead in its first at-bat, but Halifax scored three runs in the third inning and six in the fourth.

Halifax plated four runs in the fifth inning, two in the sixth and nine runs in the seventh inning.

Motley scored its final three runs in the fifth inning.

Hailey had three doubles and five RBIs for Halifax, Erica Allgood had a triple, single and five RBIs, and Skye Harlow had a double, two hits and two RBIs.

Jones had a double, two singles and three runs scored, Gregory had a triple, single and two RBIs, and Owen had two singles and an RBI.

Moser finished with three base hits and two runs scored, Boyd with two hits and an RBI, Bales with two singles and four runs scored, and Logan with an RBI single and a RBI groundout.

Faith Lester and Noblin added base hits for Halifax, which used two pitchers in the game.

Bales started the game on the mound, and Allgood came to the mound in the first inning. 

Bales and Allgood recorded one strikeout apiece for Halifax American.
