Gone fishin’

Time to take up one of my favorite pastimes, one I haven’t had time to indulge in lately, fishing.

COMMUNITY VOICE: Uranium Policy: Why insist on transparency?

The Uranium Working Group’s work plan presented at a March 7 meeting of the Uranium Mining Subcommittee drew instant, sharp criticism for its lack of transparency, which was deemed particularly reprehensible in light of the report by the National Academy of Sciences, which told us that international best practices are “founded on principles of openness, transparency and public involvement in oversight and decision-making.” 

What a performance

Aside from school functions involving students, there have been only a handful of occasions in our memory that the high school auditorium has been filled to capacity. 

The well of column ideas has run dry

Well, folks the well has run dry this week for column ideas, and I’ve found you can’t draw blood from a turnip.

Itching to garden again

This warm weather has certainly got me itching to start gardening. Mind you I’m not talking about a large garden — just a small little backyard garden of tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, onions, watermelons and cantaloupes, along with an herb or two.

Wacky weather everywhere

My dad had a favorite expression when driving across a river, telling anyone in the car, “Water, water, everywhere and not a drop to drink.”
