Yo-yos and fiscal cliffs

I couldn’t help but identify with the opening lines of the Charles Dickens classic, “A Tale of Two Cities,” which reads, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,” when looking back at 2012.

Some things can never be understood or explained.

United in tragedy

I noticed two gentlemen of different colors, gazes fixed on the television in the breakfast room of the hotel I was staying in Sunday morning, heads shaking in mutual disbelief at the televised reports coming out of Newtown, Connecticut, scene of the latest school shooting.

It’s not going to happen ever again in our lifetime.

Final ending to history’s mysteries?

History’s Mysteries was a documentary program that aired on the History Channel, but truth may be stranger than fiction judging by recent hysteria over the Mayan calendar and the alleged end of the world Dec. 21.
