Positive thoughts

To the editor:

Throughout the years there have been many books written about positive thinking by various authors.

In my opinion, there is one book that stands above all others when it comes to thinking good and positive thoughts. That book is the Holy Bible. The Bible is full of such scriptures.

One that comes to mind is, “He that comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Another is, “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.”

A third one I like says, “…He which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.”

I have found reading the Bible is a great prescription when you’re feeling discouraged and have lost focus on life.

Get into God’s Word. It has really helped me in my life, especially lately.

We need help!

To the editor:

We need firefighters and EMTs during hours between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. who live in or near Halifax.

We have three firefighters and no EMTs in the area during this time frame. Remember, we are volunteers and have a life, so sometimes the three of us might not be in the area during these hours.

This is what we need: Men or women between the ages of 18 and 35 in excellent physical condition who can pass a background check with the law and be drug free.

The applicant must be willing to take firefighting classes, and you must have the guts to stand your ground and fight fire with the best equipment around. (You got to be tough!)

We furnish all your turnout gear and pager. You will be trained and guided. All members are expected to follow by-laws of our department and Virginia state laws.

If you have the willpower to get up and help protect our community and work with some of the best firefighters around, come see us at 7 p.m. on the first or third Monday of the month. You may also call 434-222-4612 for information about the department.

We need your help and will welcome you.

If you would like to be an EMT, we will pay for your training. We need medical people who live in or around Halifax and can respond either day or night.

Our department has excellent medical equipment and a really good EMS vehicle. We need people to use it.

Please come and help us protect our community and loved ones.
