Mrs. Lucille Waskey Royster of South Boston died Sunday, Sept 9, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Buchanan on April 13, 1939 and was 73 years of age.  She was the daughter of the late Casa Edward Waskey and Stella Virginia Leighton Waskey and was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Royster.

Jerry Walter Cardwell

Jerry Walter Cardwell was born on Nov. 25, 1945 in Halifax County, to the late Lorenzo Orange and Esther Mae Terry Cardwell.   He was the sixth of seven children from that union. His formative years were spent in the tobacco fields and at Williams Temple CME Church.   Life on the farm sparked his curiosity for building things. After graduation from Mary M. Bethune High School, he followed his late brother Freddie to Wash. D.C. where he began a career as a carpenter. 

David Cousins Hawthorne

David Cousins Hawthorne, 58, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012. He was a lifelong resident of South Boston. Mr. Hawthorne was preceded in death by his parents, Waverly Edward and Ruth (Smith) Hawthorne.

Stuart O’Neil Loftis

Mr. Stuart O’Neil Loftis of South Boston died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at his home. He was born Jan. 8, 1923 in Halifax County the son of the late Aubrey O’Neil Loftis and Dorothy Ramsey Loftis. His wife, Virginia Hood Loftis, also preceded him in death.
