Ms. Flossie Hankins Hughes of 3213 Thompson Store Road, Vernon Hill died Wednesday, May 15, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 79.

Abner ‘Dixon’ Barley

Abner “Dixon” Barley, 90, of Bassett passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem N.C. He was born in Java on Nov. 25, 1922, the son of the late Morrison Barley Jr. and the late Vannie Farmer Barley.  In addition, he was preceded in death by his wives, Mathilda Mae Boelte Barley and Margaret Lawson Hundley Barley; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Paul Mark Steube

Mr. Paul Mark Steube of South Boston died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Duke University Medical Center. He was born in Halifax County on June 1, 1941 and was 71 years old. He was the son of the late William Ernest Steube and the late Ruth Earl Overstreet Steube and married to Judith Lynn Monk Steube, who survives.

Sukon ‘Sukie’ Panich

Sukon “Sukie” Panich, 69, of Milton, Georgia, formerly of South Boston, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2013 succumbing to injuries from an automobile accident.

Mrs. Sarah Thompson Pointer of South Boston died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Heritage Hall in Brookneal at the age of 95. 

Larry Junior Greene

Mr. Larry Junior Greene of Guill Town Road, Clover  died May 6 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 65.

Earl Wilson Daniel

Dr. Earl Wilson Daniel, age 94 of Roxboro, N.C., died peacefully May 8, 2013, after several months of declining health. He was born Jan. 29, 1919 in Leamington Ontario Canada, the son of the late Fred Henderson Daniel and Ruth Webb Daniel, both from Granville County in North Carolina. He is also predeceased by his devoted wife of 59 years, Agnes Warren Daniel, as well as his brother, USAF Colonel Cecil Frederick Daniel.
