Mrs. Irene Puckett Hogan of Virgilina died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at her home.

Stanley John Hummert

Mr. Stanley John Hummert of 1140 Carter’s Lane, Halifax died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012 at his home. He was born in Belleville, Ill. on Jan. 29, 1959 and was 53 years old. He was the son of the late Norbert Bernard Hummert and Regina Kramper Hummert and was married to Karen Brasch Hummert who survives. Stan was a member of Grace Baptist Church and attended The Worship Center. He was U.S. Navy veteran and was also active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a Unit Commissioner for the Dan River District.

Alfred Simmon Owen

Mr. Alfred Simmon Owen of South Boston died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on Nov. 30, 1933 and was 78 years old. He was the son of the late Willie Fuller Owen and the late Gertrude Nichols Owen and married to Jean Conner Owen who survives.

William ‘Bill’ Caldwell

Mr. William “Bill” Caldwell of 1505 Penick Avenue, South Boston died July 28, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 70 with his family by his side.

Queen Elizabeth Sims Bouldin

Mrs. Queen Elizabeth Sims Bouldin of Rodgers Chapel Road, Clover, died Monday, July 30, 2012, at South Boston Manor at the age of 84.

Mr. Wayne Dixon

Mr. Wayne Dixon of Spring Avenue, South Boston, died Friday, July 27, 2012, at Lynchburg General Hospital at the age of 68.

Samuel Lacy (Sonny) Riddle Jr.

Mr. Samuel Lacy “Sonny” Riddle Jr. of 501 Cheverly Drive, South Boston died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Danville on June 22, 1950 and was 62 years old.  He was the son of the late Samuel Lacy Riddle Sr. and Frances Hudson Riddle and was married to Brenda Banton Riddle who survives.  He was a member of Black Walnut Baptist Church, was retired from the Halifax County School System after 31 years of service, was a staff writer for the Gazette Virginian newspaper, and was a former radio newscaster with WHLF.  

Sheila Estes Robinette

Ms. Sheila Estes Robinette of 541 Golden Lane, Sutherlin, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the age of 50. She was born in Richmond on Feb. 23, 1962, to the late Carroll Roland Estes and Catherine Thomas Davis. Ms. Robinette was of the Baptist faith.

Shirley Raynor Whitlow

Mrs. Shirley Raynor Whitlow, age 68, of 15067 Mountain Road, South Boston died at Roman Eagle Memorial Home on Monday, July 30, 2012. 

Willie Lee Rice Glasscock

Mrs. Willie Lee Rice Glasscock, 83, of Virgilina and widow of Clifton Coolidge Glasscock, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at The Woodview in South Boston.
