Espey Roy Jones Jr.

Espey Roy Jones Jr. of 2522 Halifax Road passed away Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at Durham VA Medical Center at the age of 83. Mr. Jones was born July 26,1929 and was married to Virginia “Jenny” Williams Jones who survives. He was a retired loom fixer at J.P. Stevens, a member of Main Street United Methodist Church, a former member of the Masonic Lodge and served in the United States Army.

Connie Buena Tucker Wilson

Mrs. Connie Buena Tucker Wilson of Virgilina, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012 at the Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Pittsylvania County, on Aug. 25, 1939 and was 72 years old.  She was the daughter of the late Richard Green Tucker Sr. and the late Alpha Tanette Farson Tucker and was married to Caleb Jerry “C.J.” Wilson who survives.

James Edward Boulden

Mr. James Edward Boulden Sr. of North Main Street, South Boston died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at the age of 70. 

Joseph Luck Chandler Sr.

Mr. Joseph Luck Chandler Sr. of 1152 Hendricks Lane, Alton died Aug. 10, 2012 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born at Athens, Georgia on Jan. 20, 1933 and was 79 years of age. He was the son of the late Joel Ira Chandler Jr. and Nell Luck Chandler and was married to Nancy Jones Chandler.  Mr. Chandler was a graduate of Georgia Tech and served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of Olive Branch United Methodist Church where he was a church trustee.

Burrell Crews Jr.

Mr. Burrell Crews Jr., age 66 of Ft. Washington, Md., passed away Aug. 6, 2012.  He was the son of the late Burrell Crews Sr. and Eunice Lovelace Crews.

Gloria Marie Hill Cousins

Mrs. Gloria Marie Hill Cousins of 1094 Mosley Ferry Road, Clover died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at her residence at the age of 70.

Winfred Allen Childress

Winfred Allen Childress, 66, of Wickliffe Road, Brookneal passed away Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at home.  He was the devoted husband of Marjorie Vaughan Childress.

David Lee Carrington

Mr. David Lee Carrington of 4068 Clays Mill Road, Scottsburg died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Arrington at the age of 59.

Lee Roy Tate

Lee Roy Tate, age 89, of Randolph passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012. Roy was born at home in Martintown, Union Co., Mississippi to Lee Roy and Willie Gertrude Martin Tate. He graduated Myrtle High School in 1941 a class of nine. He was enlisted as a Private into the Army on Dec. 28, 1942 at Camp Shelby, MS and served 18 months as a Drill Sergeant at Fort Lee, later deployed to Guam, Saipan and New Caledonia being honorably discharged in 1945 having attained the rank of First Sergeant. While serving at Ft. Lee, he married Blanche Marie Thomas of Richmond on Oct. 16, 1943, a marriage lasting 68 years.
