Mrs. Pocahontas Hines Long of 621 Berry Hill Road, South Boston died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at the age of 95.

Mrs. Emma Royal Logan Fleetwood of Old Grubby Road, South Boston died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at her residence at the age of 98.

Rebecca Bowen Russell

Mrs. Rebecca Bowen Russell of South Boston died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at The Woodview Nursing Home. She was born in Halifax County on April 25, 1916 and was 96 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Garnie Stuart Bowen and Blanche Maddox Bowen.

Mrs. Harriette June Irby Crews of Nathalie died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Halifax County on April 2, 1932 and was 80 years old.  

Hugh Gray Loftis

Mr. Hugh Gray Loftis of Halifax died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at his home. He was born in Halifax County on July 3, 1935 and was 77 years old. 

Millard Gilbert Phillips

Millard Gilbert Phillips, 76, of 3236 N. Terry’s Bridge Road, Halifax died Sept. 16, 2012 at Kindred Hospital. Mr. Phillips was born Aug. 2, 1936 in Halifax County to the late Gilbert Lawrence Phillips and Truly Thomas Phillips. He was married to the late Muriel Landrum Phillips.

James Eugene Watkins

James Eugene Watkins of Henderson, N.C., the son of the late Thomas Watkins and Louise Clark Watkins, formerly of Elizabeth, N.J., and a native of South Boston, died Friday, Sept. 14. He was educated in the public schools of South Boston, having driven school buses at Bethune High School where he also played football. He was baptized at Ebenezer CME Church until moving to Newark, N.J., at the age of 17.
