Mr. Franklin Halverson Smith of 1021 Carter Lane, Halifax died Friday, March 14, 2014, at the age of 80.
He was born in Halifax County on Sept. 28, 1933 to the late Charlie D. Smith and the late Sallie Francis Smith and was married to Delores M. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a scheduler for Georgia Pacific. He was an active member of Centerville Baptist Church where he was a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include his wife, Delores M. Smith; two daughters, Donna L. Matthews and husband James of Virgilina and Robin A. Bishop and husband Cliff of Fort Meade, Md.; a stepson, David Fallen, and wife Cindy of Nathalie; four brothers, Willie Lee Smith of South Boston, Isaac L. Smith of Doswell, Joe A. Smith of Richmond and Charlie D. Smith Jr. of Germanton, N.C.; one sister, Frances S. Crews, of Scottsburg; and 12 grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Reba S. Kinsey, a brother, John Smith, and a stepdaughter, Toni Saunders.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Centerville Baptist Church on Monday, March 17, 2014, from 1:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. and at other times at the home.
