Mrs. Mecia Rich Wilborne of Alton died Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, N. C. She was born Dec. 11, 1934 in High Point, N.C., and was 79 years old.
She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Rich and the late Eva Rich Snider and was married to the late Raleigh Venable Wilborne Sr.
She was an active member of the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and participated in the U.M.W. She also was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 8 for over 35 years where she served many positions. She retired from Westinghouse after 14 years of service.
Mrs. Wilborne is survived by three daughters, Beverly Kay Hill of Pasadena, Md., Lana Whirley of Rocky Mount and Cheryl Ann Mills of Prospect Hills, N.C.; two sons, Kenneth Dale Wilborne Sr. of South Boston and Raleigh Venable Wilborne Jr. of Edgewater, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Roland Rich of Dillon, S.C., and Dwight Rich of Reidsville, N.C.; two sisters, Joyce Robbins of Archdale, N.C., and Dorothy Jennings of Archdale, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church with the Pastor Bonnie Pizzeck officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and other times at the home of Kenneth Wilborne, 2060 Old Cluster Springs, South Boston.
