Mr. Marshall Lee Blanks of Alton died Thursday, March 6, 2014, at his daughter’s home in Bedford.
He was born in Halifax County on March 2, 1928 and was 86 years of age. He was the son of the late George Thomas Blanks and Millie Clark Blanks and was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Murphy Blanks.
Mr. Blanks was a member of Second Baptist Church and First Crossroads Baptist Church and was a deacon at both churches.
Mr. Blanks is survived by four children, Wayne C. Blanks and wife Kaye of Hampton, Brenda Church and husband Jim and Michael A. Blanks and wife Melissa, all of Huddleston, and Sherry B. Hodnett and husband Linwood of Bedford; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Richardson, of Richmond; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, three brothers, Jessie, Mitchell (Jasper) and Richard Blanks; and six sisters, Edna Lipford, Mildred Overstreet, Ruby Roy, Christine Layne, Margaret Dawson and Nancy Keever, also preceded Mr. Blanks in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Blanks were held Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Black Walnut Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home on Saturday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. and other times at the family home, 11149 Philpott Road, Alton.
