Walter Lee Meadows

Mr. Walter Lee Meadows of Sixth Street, South Boston died Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at his residence at the age of 64. 

Mr. Meadows was born in Halifax County on Dec. 25, 1949 and was the son of the late Mr. Walter H. Meadows and Mrs. Cilla Lee Meadows. He was married to Mrs. Grace Brame Meadows and was a member of Owens Grove Baptist Church. 

Mr. Meadows was a United States Army veteran and was a long-time employee of Georgia-Pacific and later retired from Climate Control, Inc. 

Mr. Walter Lee Meadows is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gracie Meadows; one son, Mr. Walter O. Meadows and wife Anita of Baltimore, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Angelique Ballou and husband John of Springfield and Mrs. Watonia Meadows Poole and husband Keith of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Ms. Valerie Stevens of New York and Ms. Cheryl Newman of Scottsburg; one stepson, Mr. Jay Newman of Florida; one sister, Ms. Annie M. Hamlette, of South Boston; one brother, Mr. Willie D. Meadows, of South Boston; his stepmother, Mrs. Hallie Meadows, of South Boston; two stepbrothers, Mr. Melvin Crowder and wife Amanda and Mr. Bernard Brooks and wife Rose of South Boston; four stepsisters, Ms. Mary Sue Hodges, Mrs. Fannie Harris and husband Jessie and Ms. Judith Brooks, all of South Boston, and Ms. Jennifer Robertson of Woodbridge; three aunts, Mrs. Mamie Link, Mrs. Ellen Lee and Mrs. Sara Meadows, all of South Boston; two brothers-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including the devoted Mr. Charlie Brown Barksdale. 

In addition to his parents, Mr. Meadows was preceded in death by two sisters, Mable Barnette and Tony Betts. 

Funeral services for Mr. Walter Lee Meadows will be Tuesday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at Owens Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. John Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 99. 

The family is receiving friends at the home of Ms. Annie M. Hamlette, 321 McKinney Street, South Boston.
