Mr. James William “Jimmy” Glass of Halifax died Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at his home. He was born in Halifax County on Jan. 19, 1950 and was 64 years of age. He was the son of the late Acie Will Glass and Eugenia Morris Glass and was raised by his aunt and uncle, George Irvin Evans and Janie Glass Evans.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church, South Boston, and a chaplain with the Progressive Universal Life Church. Mr. Glass was employed by J. P. Stevens for over 30 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Charlotte Glass Prevette, and husband Keith of Alton; a devoted companion, Allie S. Powell, of South Boston; one brother, Julian Thomas “Butch” Glass, of Halifax; four sisters: Linda G. Humphries of Virgilina, Emma Jean Humphries of South Boston, Ann G. Compton of South Boston and Betty E. Conner of South Boston; two grandchildren, Adam and Samuel Prevette of Alton; special uncles, Noel Glass and Woody Glass; special nephew, David Irby; and many other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, one brother, DeRoy Glass, and one nephew, Kevin Glass, also preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Glass will be held at Second Baptist Church, South Boston on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Larry Wollbrink and Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Second Baptist Church on Friday, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. with refreshments afterwards.
