Mrs. Mable Alberta Meadows Barnette of 805 Randolph Avenue, South Boston died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, at Halifax Regional Hospital at the age of 67.
Mrs. Barnette was born in Halifax County on May 31, 1946 to the late Mr. Walter Hubert Meadows and Mrs. Celia Louise Lee Meadows. She was married to Mr. Silas Barnette and was a member of First Baptist Church, South Boston.
In addition to her husband, survivors include one son, Robert Bobby Meadows, and wife Lyric of South Boston; one granddaughter, Ms. Robin Coleman, of South Boston; two grandsons, Mr. Charles Mills and Mr. Zaquan Meadows, both of South Boston; one great-granddaughter, Ms. Journey Mills, of S.C.; one sister, Mrs. Annie M. Hamlett of South Boston; two brothers, Mr. Walter L. Meadows and wife Gracie and Mr. Willie D. Meadows, all of South Boston; three aunts, Mrs. Mamie Link, Mrs. Ellen Lee and Mrs. Sarah Meadows, all of South Boston; one brother-in-law, Mr. Lionel Barnette and wife Debra of South Boston; one sister-in-law, Ms. Courtney Lipscomb; her stepmother, Ms. Hallie Meadows; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including the devoted Mrs. Rosa Via Gee.
In addition to her parents, one sister, Mrs. Tony Betts, and one great-granddaughter, Ms. Trinity Mills, also preceded Mrs. Barnette in death.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Ferry Street, South Boston with the Rev. Hayward Jennings Sr. officiating.
The family will receive friends at Jeffress Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 21, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and other times at the residence.
