Mr. Barry Dwight Thomas Sr. of Scottsburg died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Chase City Health and Rehab Center.
He was born in Halifax County on June 9, 1953 and was 60 years of age. He was the son of the late Sylvanious Nathaniel Thomas and Doris Smoot Thomas and is survived by his wife, Linda Henderson Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a member of the South Boston Seventh Day Adventist Church and South Boston American Legion Post 8 and was manager of Savings Gas Station in Centerville.
In addition to his wife, survivors include four sons, Barry Dwight Thomas Jr. of South Boston, Shawn Thomas and wife Rebecca of Creedmore, N.C., Joel Christian Thomas and wife Melissa of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Stephen Henderson and wife Becky of Skipwith; six daughters, Shanna Conner and Kevin Seamster of Halifax, Windi Lopez and Robert Fallen of Virgilina, Tiffanni Phillips and husband Kevin of Greensboro, N.C., Jessica Wilmouth of South Boston, Tammy Smith and fiance Eddie Seay of Skipwith and Tammie Pearson and husband Paul of South Boston; five sisters, Bonnie T. Chandler and husband Randy of Williamsburg, Teresa T. Harris and husband Marshall of South Boston, Margo T. Stembridge and husband Michael of Clarksville, Kathy T. Carter of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Sonda T. Ridgeway and husband Mark of Dayton, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
One great-grandson, Nolan Avery Short, also preceded Mr. Thomas in death.
Graveside services for Mr. Thomas will be held Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Ridgeway officiating.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Saturday, from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
