Mr. Benjamin Edward Leigh Jr. of Mountain Road, Halifax died Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at his residence at the age of 71.
Mr. Leigh was born in Halifax County on Nov. 10, 1942 to the late Mr. Belgium Leigh Sr. and Mrs. Alice Edmonds Leigh. He was married to Mrs. Marie Crews Leigh and was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include three daughters, Ms. Janice Leigh of Alton, Ms. Gloria A. Leigh of Suffolk, and Mrs. Lisa Slayton and husband Otis of South Boston; two sons, Mr. Preston E. Leigh and wife Sandra of South Boston and Mr. Stanley Leigh and wife Laura of Fairfax; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Alice Davis, Mrs. Georgia Sims and Mrs. Emma Chappell, all of South Boston; three brothers, the Rev. Louis S. Leigh and wife Ruby, the Rev. John M. Leigh and wife Thelma, all of Halifax, and Mr. Derwin K. Leigh and wife Helen of South Boston; six sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law, including the devoted Mr. Albert Hubbard; one aunt, Mrs. Ellen Younger; a devoted friend, Mr. Earl Long; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Mrs. Grace Hubbard; three brothers, Mr. Joe L. Leigh, Mr. William E. Leigh and Mr. Grover C. Leigh, also preceded Mr. Leigh in death.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. at New Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Nelson Stamps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 3028 Mountain Road, Halifax.
