Mrs. Dorothy Eleanor Keatts Bagby Puryear of Virgilina died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on Jan. 28, 1941 and was 72 years of age.
She was the daughter of the late George Allen Keatts and Carolyn Palmer Keatts, who survives. She was first married to James Burch Bagby, deceased, and then to Gene Douglas Puryear, who survives.
She was a member of Shepard’s Chapel.
Mrs. Puryear is survived by her husband, Gene Douglas Puryear, of Virgilina; her mother of South Boston; two sons, Randy Michael Bagby and wife Kimberly Pierce Bagby of Rapid City, S. D., and Rodney Dwayne Bagby and special friend Donna Stolz of Hayes; a very special stepdaughter, Linda Puryear McCuskey, and husband Dan McCuskey of Melba, Idaho; three brothers, Jerry Keatts and his deceased wife, Dale Martin Keatts, Stuart Keatts and Hope Pulliam Keatts, and Kenneth Keatts, all of South Boston; one sister, Faye Powell, and husband Lowell Powell of Alton; one granddaughter; a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one stepson, Gene Peyton Puryear, and one grandson, Tyler Everson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy Eleanor Keatts Bagby Puryear will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at 11 a.m. with the Rev, Randy Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Virgilina Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service.
