Mrs. Arnita Moore Vass of Union Church Road, South Boston died on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at her residence at the age of 88.
She was born in Halifax County on March 18, 1925 to the late Mr. Alexander Moore and Mrs. Malinda Crews Moore. She was married to the late Mr. Hubert Vass and was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church.
Mrs. Vass is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Arlene Edmunds and husband Richard of Halifax, Ms. Dorothy Vass and Mrs. Carolyn Childress of South Boston and Mrs. Joyce Williams and husband Robert of South Boston; one son, Mr. Huebert Vass, and devoted wife and caretaker Sandra of South Boston; four sisters, Mrs. Ardelia Boyd of South Boston, Mrs. Mable Smith of Danville, Mrs. Carolyne Owens and Mrs. Ruby Collins of Evanston, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mary Moore of Blairs and Mrs. Josephine Moore of Washington, D.C.; a devoted caretaker, Mrs. Patricia Davis Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Vass was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Julia Marable, and four brothers, Mr. Henry Moore, Mr. Archie Moore, Mr. James Moore and Mr. Jesse Moore.
Funeral services for Mrs. Arnita Moore Vass will held Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at 1 p.m. at New Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Nelson Stamps officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Public viewing for family and friends was held Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, from noon until 6 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, South Boston.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 6075 Union Church Road, South Boston.
