Mrs. Ella Owen Fulcher of Summerfield, N.C., formerly of Halifax, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born in Halifax County on May 2, 1942 and was 71 years old. She was the daughter of the late Otis Holt Owen and the late Rosa McCormick Owen. She was married first to the late Samuel Lacks, then to the late Garland Shively and then to Bobby Glenn Fulcher, who survives.
She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and the W.O.W.
In addition to her husband of Summerfield, survivors include two daughters, Cindy Lacks Smith and boyfriend Clifton Dodson and Deborah Shively Wilborn and husband Anthony, all of Summerfield; two stepsons, Michael Glenn Fulcher and wife Sherry of Wake Forest, N.C. and John Glenn Fulcher and wife Michelle of South Boston; one sister, Betty F. Conner and husband Will of Scottsburg; one brother, John A. Owen and wife Bessie of South Boston; eight grandchildren, Megan Smith, Noah Samuel Smith, Ashleigh Wilborn, Payne Fulcher, Lauren Fulcher, Kristen Fulcher, Hunter Fulcher and Luke Fulcher.
One brother, James “JD” Owen, also preceded Mrs. Fulcher in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Richard Odom and Roger Barrick and Pastor Larry Luffman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 17, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at her daughter’s home, 3505 Vernon Woods Drive, Summerfield.
