Mr. Philmore Lester of South Boston died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 70.
Mr. Lester was born in Virgilina on June 4, 1943 the son of Ms. Gracie Stanfield and the late Mr. Clifford Lester. He was married to Mrs. Grendel Legare Lester and was a member of Jeters Chapel Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife of Beaufort, S.C., survivors include three daughters, Ms. Dawn Lester of New York, Mrs. Shoranda Clark and husband Quinnie of Burton, S.C. and Ms. Aisha Legree of West Orange, N.J.; one son, Mr. Gerald Legree, and wife Sonia of Charleston, S.C.; his mother of Virgilina; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Ms. Gracie Trimble of South Boston, Ms. Lucille Lester of Temple, Texas, Ms. Marie Walton of Bronx, N.Y., Mrs. Marjorie Carrington and husband John of Newport News, Mrs. Atha Ridges and husband James of Bronx, Ms. Bertha Rogers of South Boston and Mrs. Karen Chandler Carden and husband Garfield of Scottsburg; five brothers, Mr. Jerome Stanfield and wife Derrell of Hampton, Mr. Jeffrey Stanfield, Mr. Eddie Lester, Mr. Leon Stanfield and wife Katherine, Mr. Albert Stanfield and wife Betty, all of South Boston; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
One son, Mr. Gregory Lester; one sister, Mrs. Lillie Stanfield Coleman; and one brother, Mr. Willie Stanfield, also preceded Mr. Lester in death.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 16, at Jeters Chapel Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Samuel Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Ms. Gracie Stanfield, 5138 Bill Tuck Highway, Virgilina.
