Mr. Morrell Bailey of 1082 Winns Creek Road, Halifax died Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at The Woodview Nursing Home at the age of 86.
Mr. Bailey was born in Halifax County on Sept. 24, 1927 to the late Mr. Willie Roosevelt Bailey and Mrs. Alma Lee Blanche Hudson Bailey and was married to Mrs. Myrtle Mae Wimbush Bailey. He was a member of Crystal Hill Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. Mr. Bailey was a retired employee of Halifax County Public Schools and was a United States Army Veteran.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Linda Wood and husband Alfred, Mrs. Patsy Terry and husband George, all of Halifax, Mrs. Betty Robinson of Baltimore, Md. and Mrs. Doreen Coleman of the home; one son, Mr. Daryl Bailey and wife Pamela of Lorton; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Janice Powell and husband Andrew of Halifax and Mrs. Sylvia Coates and husband Mansfield of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Mr. Clyde H. Bailey and wife Joanne of Halifax; two godsons, Mr. Allen Jeffries and Mr. Willie Jeffries; five sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, one daughter, Mrs. Sheila Palmer; two sisters; and six brothers, also preceded Mr. Bailey in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at Crystal Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Louis S. Leigh officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 99.
The family is receiving friends at the residence. Public viewing for family and friends will be Friday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at The Crawford House chapel in Halifax.
