Mrs. Margaret Clay Childrey of Halifax died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Pittsylvania County on Aug. 26, 1937 and was 76 years old. She was the daughter of the late George Robert Clay and Mary McKinney Clay and was married to the late Wilson Childrey.
Mrs. Childrey is survived by two sons, Dale Childrey of Gypsum, Colo. and Dean Childrey and wife Tammy of Halifax; one daughter, Cindy Amos, of Eden, N.C.; four grandchildren, John Ray Childrey, Jessica Messick, Krystal Childrey and Steven Childrey; two sisters, Willie Murphy of South Boston, and her twin sister, Fleecy Clay, of Gretna; and one brother, Anderson Clay of Pittsville.
Three sisters, Florence Clay, Pearlie Barbour and Chaney Mann; and one brother, Gene Clay, also preceded Mrs. Childrey in death.
A graveside service was held Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Coy Terry officiating.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday and other times at the home, 1078 Hall’s Trail, Halifax.
