Mr. Roy Thomas Ridgeway Jr. of 3166 Ball Park Loop, Halifax died Dec. 20, 2013 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
He was born in Halifax County on Aug. 1, 1930 and was 83 years old. He was the son of the late Roy Thomas Ridgeway Sr. and the late Mary Catherine Henderson Ridgeway and was married to the late Eunice Satterfield Ridgeway.
He was a member of Halifax Baptist Church and retired from the Army National Guard. He was also a member of American Legion Post 8.
Mr. Roy Thomas Ridgeway is survived by one son, Mark David Ridgeway, and wife Sonda of Greenville, Ohio; one daughter, Mae Beth Ridgeway Smith, of Greenville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Nathaniel Thomas Ridgeway, Dawn Bowen Betts and husband Matthew, Christopher James Bowen, Jamie Lee Ridgeway and wife Laurie, Jeremy Ray Ridgeway, Julie Renee Ridgeway Fields and husband Ryan and John Thomas Ridgeway; nine great-grandchildren and one step great-grandson.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Larry Thomas Ridgeway; one grandson, Jason David Ridgeway; and two brothers, Clyde and Gene Ridgeway.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Halifax Baptist Church with the Rev. Eddie Collins, the Rev. Mark Ridgeway and the Rev. Mike McDowell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at his home, 3166 Ball Park Loop Road, Halifax.
