Stephen Eugene “Gene” Taylor, 55, of Scottsburg, husband of Bonita Moore Taylor, died suddenly Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born July 23, 1958 to Stephen Edward Taylor (deceased) and Frances Anderson Taylor in Petersburg.
Gene was a graduate of Halifax County Senior High School with the Class of 1976 and had worked at Georgia Pacific for a number of years before working with his brother at Joe Taylor Painting for the last 15 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In addition to his wife and mother, survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Derek S. and Sara Taylor of South Boston and Michael Devin and Paula Taylor of Crystal Hill; grandchildren Alicia Taylor, Whitney Taylor and Michael Pulliam; his brothers, Joe Taylor of South Boston and Nathan Taylor of Burlington, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Charles Lowery of South Boston; and his father-in-law, Forest Moore.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Watkins Cooper Lyon Funeral Home, Clarksville.
