Mr. James Wadell Chism of Easley Street, South Boston died on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill at the age of 64.
Mr. Chism was born in Halifax County on July 24, 1949 to the late Mr. Lorenzo Chism Sr. and Mrs. Christine Richardson Chism.
Mr. Chism is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Mary Medley McIvor, and husband Quincy of South Boston; one adopted son, Mr. Darren Medley of South Boston; four grandchildren, Jasmine Medley, Cloteal Sanford, Quinton McIvor and Quintessa McIvor; one great-grandchild, Jayceon Jackson; one brother, Mr. Lorenzo Chism Jr., of South Boston; one nephew, Mr. Earl Jordan; one niece, Ms. Angela Jordan; three devoted cousins, Mrs. Yvonne Coleman (Skivon) and husband Freddie, Mrs. Gwen Mangum and Ms. Ruth Leigh; devoted friends, the Rev. Dr. Frank Coarum and wife Bettie, Mr. Alfrederick Coleman and wife Alberta; and a host of other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, one sister, Ms. Juanita Chism, also preceded Mr. Chism in death.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel in South Boston, with the Rev. Dr. Frank Coarum officiating.
Public viewing will be Sunday, Dec. 8, at Jeffress Funeral Home chapel from noon until 6 p.m.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Mr. Quincy and Mrs. Mary McIvor, 713 Cedar Avenue, South Boston.
