Mr. Jasper Cheek of Philpott Road, South Boston died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Danville Regional Hospital at the age of 78.
Mr. Cheek was born in Halifax County on Dec. 22, 1934 to the late Mr. Roy Cheek and Mrs. Elizabeth Jordan Cheek. He was married to the late Mrs. Ophelia Owen Cheek and was a member of Dan River View Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors of Mr. Cheek include three sons, Mr. Jasper K. Cheek and wife Darva of South Boston, Mr. Christopher Cheek and wife Jennifer of Roxboro, N.C. and Mr. Sherman Cheek and wife Sonya of Burlington, N.C.; two sisters, Ms. Alma Powell of Martinsville and Mrs. Edna Duncan and husband Norman of Passaic, N.J.; two brothers, Mr. Calvin Cheek Sr. and Mr. Charles Cheek Sr. and wife Lucille, all of South Boston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, two brothers, Mr. Marshall Cheek and Mr. Elijah Cheek, and one sister, Ms. Elsie Harris, also preceded Mr. Cheek in death.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at Dan River View Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clifton Madden officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family is receiving friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Jeffress Funeral Home, and all other times at the residence, 6204 Philpott Road, South Boston.
