Beulah Edna Rowland Shelton, 86, of 4352 Old Richmond Road, Danville went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at her residence after a decline in her health for the past six years.
Born in Pittsylvania County on Dec. 30, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Eddisson S. Rowland and Alice P. Saunders Rowland. She lived most of her life in the Kentuck community of Pittsylvania County and was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church.
She was a loving and supportive wife and partner in ministry for many years to the late Rev. Charlie M. Shelton. She was a member of the WMU at Kentuck Baptist Church, and she was the strongest woman that her family has ever known.
In addition to her husband, a daughter, Rachel S. Wilkerson, a great-grandson, Michael Terry, and four brothers, Russell Rowland, Guy Rowland, Ray Rowland and Luther Rowland, predeceased her.
Survivors include two grandsons, Owen Doss and wife Patty of Danville and Steven Doss and wife Leigh of Sutherlin; two granddaughters, Teresa Tate and husband John of Danville and Deborah Doss of the residence; two sisters, Nan Jacobs and Naomi Fletcher; three brothers, George Rowland, Raymond Rowland and Kenneth Rowland; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. from Kentuck Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Mahan officiating. Interment followed in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, at Kentuck Baptist Church from 7 until 8:30 p.m., and other times they will be at the residence. Also, they suggest that memorials may be made to Kentuck Baptist Church, 1845 Kentuck Church Road, Ringgold, VA 24586.
