Mr. John Winston Edwards of 1006 Waddell Woods Lane, South Boston passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at his home. He was born in Dothan, Ala. on Nov. 30, 1948 and was 64 years old. He was the son of Grey Holt Edwards Sr. and Margaret Maddox Edwards who both survive, and was married to Laura Cranford Edwards. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the choir and also was the former choir director at Dan River Baptist Church for 30 years. Mr. Edwards was a 38-year employee with the Halifax County School System and retired as director of Technology.
In addition to his wife of the home and parents of Holly Hill, Ala., survivors include four daughters, Melanie E. Eanes and husband Joe of Charlottesville, Lauren E. Stalcup and husband David of Summerville, S.C., Kate E. Hendricks and husband Les of Greenville, S.C. and Anne Cranford Edwards of South Boston; one stepson, John Cranford and wife Joanie of Virgilina; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Grey Holt Edwards Jr. and Mike Edwards, both of Ga.
A funeral service for Mr. Edwards will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating. Burial at Oak Ridge Cemetery will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the church from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
